Worship at home.

Since the beginning of The River Church, we have focused on not going to church but being the church. As we say, Be The River!

Today we were forced to cancel our worship gathering for the first time because of the weather. I know it’s different but it should really have no effect on us. We are the church, not of our own doing but of God’s. He adopted us into His family and made us His. He put us together and formed us as His church, His “called out” to be on mission with Him in the world. So, while we miss not gathering together, our mission remains the same – Be The Church.

The Yokeley’s gathered as a family this morning around the kitchen table with a Bible and a guitar. We sang off key and forgot a lot of chords and words, but we sang loud and with glad hearts. We studied Luke 10 and asked each other the question, “Who are our neighbors?” The answer came down to anyone God places in front of us is our neighbor. We also prayed together. Josiah (2 years old with down syndrome) prayed after every song we sang. So we prayed with him. His words made no sense, but he started each prayer with thank you God and ended with amen. What was in the middle only his creator knows, but it was beautiful and we prayed along with him. We can worship God anywhere. Today, I would not have traded my spot for any church building in the world.

Today reminded me that as God places people in our lives He continues to call us out to be His church, to worship him with our lives, and to love His creation. May we be able to do just that, no matter what the weather!
