Ok, It’s official. I am losing weight. I went to the doctor and I weigh 238. This is the lowest my weight has been since 1994.
My mom passed away in Decemeber of 94 and I began eating crazy and have never really stopped. At Christmas of 2002 I was up to right at 300. I lost down to around 260 the next spring before Joshua was born, but stayed around 265 until this year. I have always struggled with my weight. It’s time to do something about it.
So you might wonder what I am doing to lose 27 pounds in this last couple of months. Well this partially started as a change in blood pressure medicine caused a lot of stomach issues to flare up and I just didn’t want to eat. But as I noticed the weight come off, I have embraced the changes in my diet.
I have cut out all soft drinks. I am guessing this has cut 800 to 1000 calories a day out of my diet. I also started to eat breakfast. Raisin Bran. No special reason, I just like Raisin Bran. I normally eat a turkey wrap, salad, or another bowl of Raisin bran for lunch and a salad or reasonable portion of whatever Allison is fixing for supper.
I think the portion size is the big deal here, not what I am eating. Last night I ate a chicken sandwich for dinner with a couple tater tots. A couple of months ago that would have been two sandwiches, mayo, ketchup, and enough tater tots to choke a rhino. Tonight will be 1 hotdog not 3 and a half and maybe the one the grill I tested out to make sure they were done.
I have also cut out fast food for the most part. If we do take the kids to Mcdonalds I am choosing a healthier option. 2 grilled snack wraps and water instead of 2 Big Macs, fries, and the biggest drink in the world.
Overall I am guessing I am eating 1000 to 1500 calories a day instead of 4000-5000 calories a day.
No crazy exercise plan. Just not shoving some much food in that big hole in the middle of my face. Therefore I am losing weight. Funny, we need the church building to expand, but this temple of the Spirit needs to continue to shrink.
I’ll keep us updated on the journey to a reasonable weight.
