Ok, It’s official. I am losing weight. I went to the doctor and I weigh 238. This is the lowest my weight has been since 1994.
My mom passed away in Decemeber of 94 and I began eating crazy and have never really stopped. At Christmas of 2002 I was up to right at 300. I lost down to around 260 the next spring before Joshua was born, but stayed around 265 until this year. I have always struggled with my weight. It’s time to do something about it.
So you might wonder what I am doing to lose 27 pounds in this last couple of months. Well this partially started as a change in blood pressure medicine caused a lot of stomach issues to flare up and I just didn’t want to eat. But as I noticed the weight come off, I have embraced the changes in my diet.
I have cut out all soft drinks. I am guessing this has cut 800 to 1000 calories a day out of my diet. I also started to eat breakfast. Raisin Bran. No special reason, I just like Raisin Bran. I normally eat a turkey wrap, salad, or another bowl of Raisin bran for lunch and a salad or reasonable portion of whatever Allison is fixing for supper.
I think the portion size is the big deal here, not what I am eating. Last night I ate a chicken sandwich for dinner with a couple tater tots. A couple of months ago that would have been two sandwiches, mayo, ketchup, and enough tater tots to choke a rhino. Tonight will be 1 hotdog not 3 and a half and maybe the one the grill I tested out to make sure they were done.
I have also cut out fast food for the most part. If we do take the kids to Mcdonalds I am choosing a healthier option. 2 grilled snack wraps and water instead of 2 Big Macs, fries, and the biggest drink in the world.
Overall I am guessing I am eating 1000 to 1500 calories a day instead of 4000-5000 calories a day.
No crazy exercise plan. Just not shoving some much food in that big hole in the middle of my face. Therefore I am losing weight. Funny, we need the church building to expand, but this temple of the Spirit needs to continue to shrink.
I’ll keep us updated on the journey to a reasonable weight.

Love North Davidson

// February 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

We are beginning a new series called Love North Davidson. During this series we are taking the opportunity to learn to BE the church to our community. We are studying some of Jesus’ parables that talk about the Kingdom of God. Our hope is that as we worship God and learn from His word during this series that we will make His name famous not just in our songs, but in our actions, our whole life, and our community.

As part of this series we will be issuing a challenge each week to help us break out of our normal activities and worship with our lives. Some will be easy ways to show God’s love. Some will be more challenging. Check back later for Challenge #1.

The City

// February 10th, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

This week we began using an new tool called The City. I thought I would take a moment to explain The City.

What is The City?
The city is church movement software. It is an online tool that allows for us to communicate and mobilize as the body of Christ. When you first log onto The City it looks a little like facebook. In fact you could easily confuse it for a Christian version of facebook. If you do that you are really missing out on what we believe it can be for our community.
The City is meant to allow us to communicate with each other more effectively and quickly. It will allow the total church body to receive communication at once, it also allows groups within the church to communicate with one another. This will allow both the whole church and your lifegroup or your serving team to keep up with events and scheduling, but even more important with specific prayer requests and specific needs of the whole church or your group.

Why now?
We believe God is positioning us to have a great impact on our community. He continues to build us and guide us and we believe a season of reaching out to the community with the gospel is close at hand. Our hope is that The City will allow for us to better administrate and communicate as God uses us to love this community with the love of Christ.

Who should be on The City?
Every attender at The River should be on the city. It is now the main way we will communicate outside of our Sunday Gatherings. Every life group and serving team will be using this to communicate as well. So, if you want to know what is going on, then you will need to sign up.

What if I don’t have a computer?
Well, then you are not reading this post :)

How do I sign up?
Email us at info (at) riverchurchlive (dot) com or sign up at the kiosk at our Sunday gathering.
